Two black men were denied service at a Carytown, Virginia CVS when they went there in search of a basic deli item. Rick Berry and his roommate Philip Blackwell went to the CVS in search of sliced cheese, and when they asked store personnel to help them, they were told the story didn’t carry cheese. Then all of a sudden the store employees vanished.
“We looked around for probably 30 to 45 minutes and we couldn’t find anybody,” Blackwell said, adding that they discovered another shopper who was also there to purchase Oragel for a bad tooth.
A police offer showed up and the customers and the police worked together to find the missing employees.
“He was laughing with us because, like, this is how weird, apocalyptic movies start,” Berry said.
Berry took a Snapchat video of the experience while they were looking for the store employees. Eventually the officer received another phone call alerting him that the employees were hiding in the backroom because they felt threatened by Berry and his roommate.
“We’re getting kicked out, because they were scared of us, and they were hiding,” Berry can be seen saying on his Snapchat video.
The police officer then changed his friendly tone and told the men they had to leave or else they would be arrested for trespassing.
CVS spokespeople were reached and they were apologetic for how the men were treated and they are planning on speaking to the employees who called the police and figuring out why they panicked.
